From the cluttered desk of the Commissioner

Left to right: Owens (Chicago), Cutler (Denver), Johnson (New Jersey), Bradford (Arizona)

Training camps are underway, and the USFL has made some pretty big splashes with player signings. The plan was not to go after many big name NFL stars, and we didn't. That didn't stop some of those stars from going after us though. Terrell Owens signed with the Chicago Blitz, Jay Cutler stayed in Denver after all, but not with the NFL.... he's the newest member of the Gold. Larry Johnson inked a deal with the New Jersey Generals, and 24 years after signing their 3rd straight Heisman winner, the USFL announced that the Arizona Wranglers signed reigning Heisman winner Sam Bradford of Oklahoma. Bradford will be throwing to former Cardinal Anquan Boldin, who wanted to stay in Arizona, but couldn't work out a deal with the Cards. The rest of the signings seem to be former NFL stars who have found their way out of the senior league in one way or another, and rookies who decided they wanted the opportunity to play close to home and the fans they know so well.

Here's a breakdown of the biggest names as far as who's playing for whom this season:

Eastern Conference
Birmingham Stallions: QB Matthew Stafford, RB Shaun Alexander, WR Percy Harvin
Boston Breakers: QB J.P. Losman, RB Reuben Droughns, WR Drew Bennett
Jacksonville Bulls: QB Jeff Garcia,RB Deuce McCallister, WR Reggie Williams
New Jersey Generals: QB Brooks Bollinger, RB Larry Johnson, WR Amani Toomer
Pittsburgh Maulers: QB Trent Green, RB Dominic Rhodes, WR Marvin Harrison
Washington Federals: QB Kyle Boller, RB Knowshon Moreno, WR Darrius Heyward-Bey

Western Conference:
Arizona Wranglers: QB Sam Bradford, RB J.J. Arrington, WR Anquan Boldin
Chicago Blitz: QB Rex Grossman, RB Chris "Beanie" Wells, WR Terrell Owens
Denver Gold: QB Jay Cutler, RB Tatum Bell, WR Jeremy Maclin
Michigan Panthers: QB Joe Ganz, RB Rudi Johnson, WR Torry Holt
Oakland Invaders: QB Mark Sanchez, RB DeShaun Foster, WR Brian Robiskie
San Antonio Gunslingers: QB Rhett Bomar, RB Ahman Green, WR Michael Crabtree

There are no preseason games in the USFL, so the season will be starting shortly.... stay tuned.

Gene Sanny
USFL Commissioner

The USFL is back.... not really though.

No, it's not the league starting fall 2010 that we've been hearing about... although that will be awesome I'm sure... the USFL I'm talking about is in my head... well, and in my computer. I'm starting up a Madden based league for my own amusement, and hopefully for yours in the form of recaps, box scores, news stories and pictures.
I have placed original USFL franchises back in these 12 cities.... In the East we have The Birmingham Stallions, Boston Breakers, Jacksonville Bulls, New Jersey Generals, Pittsburgh Maulers, and the Washington Federals. In the West will be The Arizona Wranglers, Chicago Blitz, Denver Gold, Michigan Panthers, Oakland Invaders, and San Antonio Gunslingers.
These teams were selected due to market research, fan loyalty, available stadiums.... actually, none of that is true. they were selected because they are my favorites, and the teams i enjoy drawing the most. Sorry if i left your team out.... let's just pretend your team merged with another as happened so often in the original USFL.
This USFL will be set in modern times.... now as a matter of fact. Gone will be the old stars you knew, and now you will find players (that i have decided) are tired of the NFL, or simply excited to play in the spring. You see, I have no salary cap, so money is no object.... actually, i have no money either, but the players are not aware of that and i propose we keep it that way. I have no intentions of having established NFL stars in my league, unless they are on the downside of thier career. Teams will be stocked with the draft, and by NFL players who would like a chance to start and play full time.
Training camp will begin soon, and player signings are on the horizon.... so check back to see who will be playing for your favorite team(of my favorite teams).
