USFL new league

OK, so i'm going to get away from the Madden type leagues that i've been doing, and I've dug out my old FBPro98, which was more about the stats and record keeping. This should free me up to do a bit more art instead of just the screen caps of Madden. I'm going with the 1984 model, which had 18 teams. I am not going to program in all the real players like i've been doing though.... i decided it would be more fun to keep the players as named and then do my art based on the player and # versus just drawing the same old guys from the real league that i always do. I went though and drew all the USFL helmets using a helmet from an old pennant for my template, and then found an old pic of Franco Harris to create my fictional Houston Gambler Dino Snider.

So, without further ado, here is the week 1 recap:

USFL Championship

The USFL SummerBowl Jacksonville, Florida

The SummerBowl of 1986 pits the Arizona Outlaws against the Baltimore Stars. We traveled to Jacksonville earlier this week, and after all the media obligations were met, we settled down to game planning.

Here's some shots of warm-ups before the game.... everyone was really excited and nervous.

The coin flip, which baltimore won, and elected to kick off.

1st quarter action....

Brian made the Stars pay for kicking to us first.

Kit Lathrop, USFL Defensive MVP, lines up for the pass rush.

Fusina hits on a pass over the middle. He would finish 17-32 for 142 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions.

Here Kelvin Bryant gets stopped in the backfield. Bryant finished with 70 yards rushing.

Brian pulls in a pass between defenders. He had 4 catches for 45 yards and a score.

The defensive backs get a little pep talk while the offense is on the field.

All-USFL Tim Taylor was good on his 2 field goal attempts.

A pick in the endzone to thwart a Star drive.

Tim celebrates his 2nd field goal of the day.

Philly brings the score closer late in the 3rd quarter.

But it was too little, too late. We prevailed 28-14 in the 1986 USFL SummerBowl.

Let the Celebration begin....

Well, that's it for this season.... thanks for following along:)

Week 10

Final regular season game - Home in Arizona

Our last regular regular season game was against Jacksonville at home, where the Bulls beat us 9-6. The starters only played the first half knowing we already had a berth in the SummerBowl.

Brain makes a nice sideline grab here. In his half of work he had 4 catches for 25 yards.

I finished my regular season with a 12-26 performance for 89 yards.

Mike Rozier and the Bulls had a nice day rushing.

Tim again accounted for all our points, going 2 for 2 on field goals.

That takes us to 7-3 on the season and a trip to the SummerBowl, being held in Jacksonville this year. Our opponent will be none other than the Baltimore Stars, who are making their 4th appearance in the championship in 4 years. When we faced the Stars this year, they beat us 12-9..... revenge time.

USFL AWARDS

Safety Bruce Laird made the All-USFL team.

As did kicker Tim Taylor.

And Defensive End Kit Lathrop was named the USFL's Defensive Player of the Year.

New Jersey's Hershel Walker was voted the USFL Most Valuable Player.

Week 9

On the road in Tampa

We traveled to Tampa this week and came away with a 17-6 victory over the Bandits, wrapping up our division and a spot in the USFL's newly dubbed "SummerBowl".... has a nice ring to it.

Brian had 3 catches for 9 yards in the win.

Look at that line play. The Bandits never laid a hand on me, yet still I only completed 14 of 31 passes. The 14 were good for 175 yards and a touchdown.

Tim went 3 for 3 on field goals. Here he got to play QB when we shifted our extra point into a 2-point conversion attempt. He completed his pass, but short of the goal line.

Next we face the Bulls..... We'll have to see if Coach Kush sits us starters in this meaningless game, or if he keeps us in to stay sharp.
